AVIS MAKES VIRGINIA RESIDENT A "MILLION AIR"
Robert Lyons is awarded one million United Mileage Plus miles as the
grand prize winner in the "Million Air Sweepstakes"
The Points of Light Foundation receives donation in conjunction with the contest
PARSIPPANY, N.J. (March 26, 2004) The State of Virginia added a new "million air" to its ranks today. Avis Rent A Car System, Inc. announced that Robert Lyons of McLean, Virginia is the grand prize winner in the company's 2003 "Million Air Sweepstakes." The contest, held last fall in celebration of the 40 th anniversary of its "We Try Harder" tagline, was designed to award one lucky winner with one million frequent flyer miles from his choice of Avis airline partners.
In addition to awarding frequent flyer miles, Avis made a donation to the Points of Light Foundation for each sweepstakes registration received in recognition of the important role that community service plays in the United States. Avis also offers discounted rental car rates for volunteers at local volunteer centers throughout the United States, as well as a pool of free rental vehicles for the Foundation's use.
"We thank Robert for his business and congratulate him on winning the one million frequent flyer miles in the Avis 'Million Air Sweepstakes'," said Scott Deaver, executive vice president of marketing for Cendant Car Rental Group, the parent company of Avis. "We also salute the Points of Light Foundation for their efforts in engaging and mobilizing volunteers who 'try harder' on the ground."
"Avis has demonstrated its commitment to community service by its continued support," said Robert K. Goodwin, President & CEO of the Points of Light Foundation. "Their generous contribution allows us to provide resources to our network of nearly 400 Volunteer Centers across the country."
Ten first-prize winners were also chosen in the "Million Air Sweepstakes." Each received 25,000 frequent flyer miles in their choice of participating airline mileage programs. Winners were chosen at random and there was no purchase necessary to win.
Lyons chose to accept his miles in his United Mileage Plus account.
