Former President George Bush and Points of Light Foundation to Dedicate New National Monument
The Extra Mile -- Points of Light Volunteer Pathway honors 20 American pioneers of the volunteer movement

WHAT:  

At a time when Americans are stepping forward with contributions and volunteer time to assist Gulf coast hurricane victims, the Points of Light Foundation will formally dedicate the Extra Mile – Points of Light Volunteer Pathway, a mile-long pathway of bronze medallions only blocks from the White House.

The Extra Mile will ultimately honor up to 70 Americans who dedicated their lives to building service-oriented movements that have benefited American society. Among the initial 20 honorees are Martin Luther King, Jr., Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Frederick Douglass, Cesar Chavez and Clara Barton.

Former President Bush, Points of Light CEO Robert K. Goodwin, Artist Thomas Kinkade and other special guests will offer remarks on the significance of volunteering in America and the legacy of the honorees
