Polo/Ralph Lauren and Points of Light
Team Up With Volunteer Mobile
WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 21, 2006) - Through the generous support of the Polo/Ralph Lauren Foundation, the Points of Light Foundation and Volunteer Center National Network has designated Volunteer Mobile in Mobile, Ala., to receive a grant to build two homes for residents whose houses were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
Volunteer Mobile is partnering with Mennonite Disaster Services (MDS) on the project. MDS will provide up to 25 skilled volunteer laborers to complete the construction, along with required contract labor. MDS has more than 50 years of experience in disaster relief and recovery and has successfully partnered with Volunteer Mobile in the past.
The special feature of the two homes is that they will be equipped with insulation made from recycled blue jeans that resulted from a Polo/Ralph Lauren effort, the Polo Jeans G.I.V.E. (Get Involved. Volunteer. Succeed.) campaign, which has generated more than $100,000 for nonprofit organizations.
Employees from the Polo outlet in Foley, Ala., will help with construction of both homes. Volunteer Mobile expects the two homes to be constructed in time for the two families to move in by mid-January.
