Points of Light Institute announces that it has plans to acquire All for Good—the leader in service discovery across the social graph. Founded in 2009, All for Good is an open source database of volunteer opportunities that brings in content from a wide range of partners and distributes listings of volunteer opportunites on allforgood.org, as well as across the Internet through a free tool for accessing the information that All for Good has already collected. By integrating the All for Good’s tools into its portfolio of social enterprises, Points of Light Institute is well-positioned to build on All for Good’s mission, extend its reach, and support nonprofits across the country by making it easier for volunteers to find service opportunities.
In less than two years, All for Good has emerged as one of the largest sources of service opportunities on the Internet, bringing opportunities from a diverse and growing group of nonprofit organizations, businesses, and government agencies. It is a fitting complement to Points of Light, a national institution that manages the largest national volunteer footprint in the nation.
All for Good started as a Google employee’s “20 percent project” in 2009. Since then, All for Good has been a joint project of many nonprofit groups and corporate partners. Today its free service enables the search functionality on Serve.gov, the official website of the Corporation for National and Community Service, as well as on many blogs and websites, Facebook pages and other online applications.
“We are thrilled that All for Good has found a new home with Points of Light Institute, one of the leading non-profit organizations in the country,” says All for Good founder and president, Jonathan Greenblatt. “We are excited about the opportunities to grow in partnership with Points of Light."
“We commend Jonathan and the board of All for Good for their creative and important contribution to volunteer engagement,” said Michelle Nunn, CEO of Points of Light Institute. “We’re excited to add All for Good to our portfolio of initiatives and build upon their momentum by leveraging their tools to allow everyone in the nation to connect to an opportunity that fits their passion and capacity.”
All for Good’s success and initial impact has been the result of a wide range of partners, particularly a handful of visionary supporters such as AARP, Gap, Google, P&G and Target. We hope to expand this list of partnerships and engage with new leaders who see the promise of using technology to strengthen the country and its communities through service.
