Lauren Schumacher is one busy high school senior.  As high school graduation nears and a fall at Boston University approaches, she has much to celebrate.

This young change agent has impacted many lives in her Texas community.  She’s known at Harris Methodist Hospital in Southlake for bringing patients comfort and joy as she accompanies them to difficult procedures and helps with MRIs and x-rays.  She’s even willing to get her hands dirty, cleaning bedpans and helping staff.

As a fund raiser for Tarrant County Make-a-Wish Foundation, Lauren helps kids with life-threatening medical conditions receive wishes their families would otherwise not be able to grant.  Her dedication and time helps the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas grant approximately 500 wishes per year.

Even though Lauren has a demanding class schedule, she’s also committed to the education of other young people.  She works as a volunteer math tutor at a local library to help kids understand math, improve their grades and help them well into their future.

Lauren’s nominator shared: “Lauren is an inspiration to her peers and adults alike. She is certainly an inspiration to her family and siblings. Lauren embodies ‘service before self’ and does so at any opportunity where her passion meets her competence. Usually, someone of her age is thinking about their plans for the next Saturday night but Lauren is focused on what she will do to make this world a better place all the time.”
