The challenge of financial support in trying economic times is a common one for local non-profits.

Halifax Habitat for Humanity is blessed to have the support of an individual like Rodney Cruise. As a member of the Halifax Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors, Rodney acts as Fundraising Committee Co-Chair. In addition, he has hosted the Annual Celebration of Hope fundraising event for the last four years.  He donated his time, talent and resources to provide incredible events that generated needed funding to build homes in the Volusia County community.

Rodney has also be instrumental in recruiting volunteers and creating partnerships to increase the effectiveness and impact of Habitat for Humanity’s work.  He directly improved the quality of life of three families in 2010 as his work supported the building of three homes. Not only did this result in a safe and lasting home for the families, but Rodney also engaged individual and community group volunteers to work WITH the family in a profound way to meet their needs. The families were invested in the community and the volunteers learned how they can continue to make a difference for those families and others through the donation of their time, energy and resources.

Rodney’s nominator shared, “Rodney is an outstanding volunteer by the spirit in which he gives to the Habitat for Humanity mission (sincerely and without any wish for recognition) and his initiative for seeing beyond the challenges of the economy and finding creative ways to assist us in securing the financial support to build needed affordable housing.”
