Daily Point of Light #4583 Kenneth Trinh
Kenneth Trinh, of Oakland, CA is a leader motivating others to create change in their communities.
As a University of California-Berkeley student, Kenneth Trinh joined OASES to help young adults overcome the same challenges he once faced. He sought to fulfill OASES' mission to create a sustainable community by "empowering students with limited resources through education, mentorship and service to strengthen the Oakland community."
Trinh grew up in an underserved community in Oakland. Only 3 out of more than 20 of his friends went to college; several dropped out well before high school graduation. Many youth in his community were involved with drugs, gangs, and violence.
Trinh started at OASES as a tutor in January, 2003. Since then he has contributed more than 3,500 volunteer hours as a tutor and Lead-Program Coordinator. Today, he serves as the youngest member of the Board of Directors for OASES, inspiring thousands of UC-Berkeley students, Oakland youth, their siblings and parents.
As a Daily Point of Light honoree, Kenneth Trinh gives underserved students a chance to be included in a supportive, empowering environment. His service helps provide them with a chance to learn, a chance to grow, and a chance to be a positive influence in the world.
