A Growing Movement to Take Action Against Climate Change
We were too involved discussing Education Nation this week to highlight the 350.org global day of action last Saturday, September 24th whose focus was to bring awareness to climate change. This is one movement that should not go unheard- where truly people are at the center of change.
350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis through online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries- they are building people power in every corner of the planet.
You might be wondering what 350 stands for...
350 is more than a number, it is the symbol of safety from the climate crisis. Scientists have determined that to preserve our planet, we must reduce the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere from its current level of 392 parts per million ("ppm")to below 350 ppm. You can think of 350 as the "safe upper limit" for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.
Last Saturday all over the world for Moving Planet day people put demands for climate action into motion—marching, biking, skating—calling for the world to go beyond fossil fuels. Over 2000 events were held in 175+ countries to let leaders know that a movement is rising to move our planet forward to a clean energy future.
Make your pledge today to take action to move beyond Fossil Fuels.
Move the planet in a positive direction.
