Change Notes: Points of Light National Headquarters
For the last few months, Points of Light institute has been engaged in a great deal of organizational planning to more powerfully fulfill our mission to inspire, equip and mobilize 21st century volunteers to create change in their communities.
To that end, we have taken on an ambitious effort to develop a new, three-year strategic plan for the organization. As we plan for the future, Points of Light has been making plans for the future physical space to house the organization. We have enjoyed the benefit of shared space with our affiliate, HandsOn Atlanta, for a number of years. This unique arrangement allows us to share the synergies and efficiencies of space and also work towards a dynamic interchange between our national efforts and the local touchstone of HandsOn Atlanta. Over the last year, under the direction of its Board of Directors, HandsOn Atlanta has decided to sell our shared Atlanta building to Points of Light.
Our 40,000-square-foot building has been home to HandsOn Atlanta, Points of Light and several other nonprofits since 2004. This sale relieves HandsOn Atlanta of the significant financial and staff investment required as a landlord for such a sizable property, and allows it to continue focusing on its core work. It also solidifies Atlanta as the national headquarters for Points of Light. As part of the sale, Points of Light has agreed to a rent structure that will reduce HandsOn Atlanta's occupancy costs and provide it with a permanent home.
With the purchase, Points of Light will seek to invest in a significant redesign of its headquarters for the first time to better serve both national activities and our local nonprofits and stakeholders, including HandsOn Atlanta. To realize our vision of Atlanta as a hub for local, national and international engagement on volunteerism and service, the new Points of Light headquarters must accommodate a wide range of communications, learning and training areas, as well as more efficient workspaces that promote greater collaboration and creativity. We look forward to telling you more about this project as our plans develop.
We are excited about this transition and believe it will allow both organizations to create vibrant, dynamic workspaces that help us all achieve our core missions - to help people create meaningful change.
Yours in service,
Michelle Nunn
CEO, Points of Light Institute
