Points of Light News Flash

Every day, in places throughout the country, people are using their time, talent, voice and money to create positive change in their communities. National Volunteer Week, April 15-21, is the time when we celebrate these powerful people doing extraordinary things through service.

"Celebrating People in Action" is Points of Light's new storytelling contest recognizing the power of service through the stories of those who have made a meaningful difference in their community.

Visit Points of Light's Facebook page now until April 21 and share your inspirational story. How has service impacted your life or your community? What has volunteerism meant to you, your family or your loved ones? Share your story today for the opportunity to inspire others (and win some cool prizes like a Celebrity Cruise to Alaska courtesy of Cabot).

Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week focuses attention on the impact and power of people to create change. The week draws the support and endorsement of the president and Congress, governors, mayors and municipal leaders, as well as corporate and community groups across the country.

During the week, Points of Light will recognize the 2012 Make A Difference Day honorees during a luncheon in Washington, D.C., and will work with members of Congress to recognize 50 extraordinary local volunteers with Daily Points of Light Awards.
