News Flash: Barbara Bush to Speak at National Conference on Volunteering and Service

We are honored to announce that former first lady Barbara Bush will be joining us in Chicago for the 2012 National Conference on Volunteering and Service. Mrs. Bush is an incredible leader of change through service, with a life dedicated to advocacy and volunteering.
When her husband, President George H. W. Bush, invoked the thousand points of light in 1989 and set off a movement of individuals, nonprofits, corporations and others working together to create community change, he also launched Points of Light, the national Conference convener. Points of Light builds on our legacy of service innovation, excellence in volunteer management and thought leadership to create a Conference that educates and energizes the entire service sector.
A tireless advocate for volunteerism, Mrs. Bush helped countless charities and humanitarian causes during her years in public life. Mrs. Bush's primary cause through the years has been promoting literacy. She believes that so many of our nation's problems could be solved if every man, woman and child could read, write and comprehend. In 1989, she founded the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, which supports family literacy programs where parents and children can learn and read together. Today, she enjoys reading to children at schools and hospitals across the nation.
All attendees will have the pleasure of seeing Mrs. Bush share her story during one of our all-Conference general sessions. Register today to ensure your seat at Conference.
