Daily Point of Light #4723 Sabrina Hilton

Posted by cmurphy

During Americorps Week we highlight current members and Americorps Alums who are Daily Point of Lights all over the nation...

After three years of service with AmeriCorps St. Louis, Sabrina Hilton conceived the idea to begin growing food in of St. Louis, Mo. This idea came to reality when Green Beings Urban Farm was born.

While most people would be content with growing a garden in their own backyards, Sabrina thinks big. She contacted the owners of an empty city lot in a low-income neighborhood, secured a grant through the USDA and eventually established a thriving farm in place of urban decay.

Through the past years, the Green Beings Urban Farm has forged partnerships with schools and community groups. Sabrina sought out local schools in need of service hours, community members who wanted to learn about farming, and current AmeriCorps members to keep the project alive.

Sabrina is constantly encouraging people to take part, and most of the time it is because of the example she sets, not because she has to ask. She is providing a place for people to learn and create community. She embodies the call to service and this is what makes Sabrina a Daily Point of Light.
