Monday Staff Volunteering Recap with Friends of Disabled Adults and Children

On Monday, August 20, our Atlanta Points of Light staff volunteered with Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC). FODAC collects donations of medical equipment and supplies to repair, clean, and match to people with injuries or disabilities who are having trouble accessing this equipment.
We arrived and went on a tour of the extensive building, where they work on repairing wheelchairs and mobilized scooters, store wheelchair parts and assorted medical supplies in a large warehouse and run an extensive goodwill. What a great organization giving back to the Atlanta community and worldwide.
We enjoyed our experience there, learning how FODAC partners with all types of organizations to help people in the U.S and in other countries. Supplies that are donated and aren’t used in their goodwill are shipped overseas.
Our Points of Light staff volunteered all over the building. Some helped sort, price and label the new goodwill clothes and linens and set them out on the racks. Others tagged rugs, and a couple of our staff helped with sorting medical supplies and putting them in boxes to be shipped outside the U.S. We worked alongside enthusiastic full time volunteers and other daily volunteers who arrive in weekly shifts.
FODAC depends on volunteers for all of their programs—from refurbishing wheelchairs and collecting equipment to staffing the Thrift Store daily.
Interested in volunteering or donating equipment? Find FODAC on Facebook. Whether you have equipment you want to donate, can lend some expertise in the wheelchair refurbishing shop or have a school, church, civic or corporate group in need of a meaningful volunteer opportunity they can show you how to maximize your efforts for the greatest impact.
