Time to Make A Difference

What will you be doing this Saturday?
For millions of people across the U.S, the answer is one in the same: volunteering in their community.
There are so many kinds of projects that will be under way across the country as part of Make A Difference Day, the nation’s largest day of volunteering.
On Saturday, Oct. 27, Points of Light and Gannett staff members will be volunteering at ACCA Child Development Center (CDC) in Annandale, Va. The CDC provides early education to disadvantaged children, ages 3 months to 5 years, and is among the region's top charities. Led by HandsOn Network Volunteer Action Center Volunteer Fairfax, we’ll be making improvements to the playground areas and classrooms.
While we encourage everyone to take part in Make A Difference Day, it’s important to remember that volunteers aren’t needed only one day a year.
Many community organizations depend on the help of volunteers. Think about how good you’ll feel about what you’ve helped accomplish — whether it’s lending a hand at the local salvation army or visiting a nursing home.
We hope that many residents will choose to make a difference on Saturday — and throughout the year.
Don’t forget to follow Points of Light, USA WEEKEND and Make A Difference Day on Facebook and tweet using #MDDAY12 while you volunteer on Oct. 27. Be sure to take pictures while volunteering and post them to our pages so we can see how you made a difference.
Mark your calendars for our next signature day of service on Nov. 17. Family Volunteer Day, This special day provides families with an opportunity to spend quality time together, teach important life skills to children, give back to the community and make volunteering a year-round habit.
