Give Back on a Budget
Do you want to give back, but don’t have extra money to do so? Don’t worry, giving back is something we all can do, and sometimes it can be cheap and easy, here are some ideas:
Give Back When You Buy Holiday Gifts
Buy your new items and give back at the same time at the clicktogive website. Many large charities, like The Nature Conservancy, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, and The United States Fund for UNICEF, have online shops that will save you an in-person trip. When you buy from a charity you are supporting the company values at the same time you fulfill your gift giving needs.
You don’t even need to spend money and you can give the gift of life. Giving blood is especially powerful now in times of a natural disaster. Giving blood happens to be one of the easiest and most effective ways to help others and you can be sure your blood donation will be going to a worthy cause.
Donate Your Unused Items
Donate used clothing, electronics, appliances and furniture to Goodwill. All sales from the organization help fund job training programs and employment placement services for those with disabilities and lack of education or job experience.
Cars: To ensure that your donation is tax-deductible, donate your car directly to a qualifying charity. Habitat for Humanity takes any vehicle, working or not, and will even pick up the towing fee.
Cell phones, PDAs, iPODs, and digital cameras: Recycling for Charities safely disposes of these items and makes a donation to your designated charity.
Computers, printers, scanners, zip drives, and fax machines: The National Cristina Foundation matches donors of these items with local nonprofits in need.
Going on a Trip? Pack for a Purpose
Pack for a Purpose is a nonprofit organization helps children around the world by collecting supplies from travelers. To participate all you have to do is go to the website, select your destination and find out what supplies are needed or requested for a project. Items needed are as simple as paper, pens and old backpacks. Once you arrive at your destination you can leave the items with the hotel concierge and Pack for a Purpose will take care of the rest.
Trivia for a Good Cause
By answering the daily trivia question on the Free Kibble website, this organization will give 10 pieces of kibble to hungry cats and dogs. According to the site, the organization has donated over 1,538,813,200 of kibble since 2008.
