Position Overview
The Government Affairs Manager will assist in coordinating all federal government relations and help to support all federal legislative efforts of the organization. He or she will work closely with the Senior Director of Government Affairs in the development of federal policy proposals which align with the organization's mission and in the promotion and expansion of citizen service within the federal policy arena.
Reporting Relationship
The Government Affairs Manager reports to the Senior Director of Government Affairs, will ideally be based in Washington DC, and is a member of the Sector Building department.

Position Responsibilities
- Work with the Sector Building team to design and implement a comprehensive advocacy strategy to support national funding for community service and volunteering.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of communication with and cultivation of Congressional offices.
- Implement communications plan with Congressional offices on key organizational updates.
- Monitor legislative activity in which the organization has an interest.
- Research policy options for the organization in such areas as education, the environment and poverty alleviation.
- Provide general support to the Senior Director of Government Affairs in the ongoing implementation of the organization's public policy strategy.
- Assist in communicating with the affiliate network on routine legislative updates and action alerts.
- A bachelor's degree.
- High attention to detail.
- Preference for candidates with Capitol Hill or other government relations experience
- Experience in nonprofit or grassroots advocacy is also preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent computer skills including database management. Social media experience would be a plus.
- Superior organizational skills required, with high attention to detail and multi-tasking.
- A commitment to volunteerism and the mission of the organization.
