Faith and the Volunteer Center National Network

Introduction

What is the link between faith and service?  How can Volunteer Centers help connect the two?  Is there value in Volunteer Centers and faith groups working together?  Are there best practices for working with faith groups that can be replicated at Volunteer Centers across the country?  These are just some of the questions that framed the work of the Points of Light Foundation, the Volunteer Center National Network Faith and Service Task Force.   This resource guide is the result of research, planning and much discussion around these questions exploring the Volunteer Center’s role in engaging people and groups of faith in meaningful community service.

This resource compiled by the Faith and Service Task Force is designed to:

  • Cultivate an awareness and understanding of the connection between faith and service
  • Provide tools and ideas for reaching faith groups with Volunteer Center services
  • Offer “real life” examples of how Volunteer Centers across the country are collaborating with congregations and faith groups
  • Share resources to support the work of your Volunteer Center
This guidebook is intended to encourage Volunteer Centers to expand services that support faith groups.  Use this book to inspire and support a growing audience of volunteers motivated by faith to serve your community.
