- Honor thy commitments
Be honest and clear about your limitations and expectations
Honor and care for the other party and their needs as you would your own
- Thou shalt strive to understand each other’s mission and culture
- Thou shalt ensure that those being served, as well as those serving, are the #1 priority
Involve those being served and those who are serving in the process
Make it a "win/win" proposition for all involved
- Thou shalt address challenges with an open mind!
- Thou shalt invite each other "to the table"
Collaborate, share leadership, responsibility and resources
Share the credit, money, and success
Get community buy-in
- Thou shall be flexible/respectful of beliefs or traditions
Respect passion and motivation of each organization
Don’t impose (pressure) your beliefs on others, respect diversity
Recognize and acknowledge autonomy of each organization involved
Respect limitations and be sensitive to issues
Make sure you’re working with appropriate leadership
- Thou shalt carefully manage thy efforts
Involve both parties in defining purpose, mission, and vision
Identify mutual goals: articulate goals, expectations, and differences
Identify and agree on the focus and common objectives and end results
Set up guidelines and boundaries for specific projects
- Thou shalt expand thy horizons
Take time to get to know your partners and develop relationships
Listen with an open mind and welcoming heart
- Thou shalt look for common ground
Strive to understand each other’s methods, processes, and language
Seek out, use, and acknowledge strengths of the other
Celebrate! Have fun!
