The Points of Light Foundation’s international
work is indicative of our larger commitment to the promotion
and support of volunteering worldwide. With many different
countries, cultures and varied interests to address, we tailor
our international work to meet the needs of Volunteer Centers, businessess, and nonprofits throughout the world.
Our national approach has been successful in
mobilizing millions of American volunteers to help solve serious
social problems. This strategic approach has provided the
framework necessary for our international
initiatives, which has helped us to sustain and empower
our global constituents.
In addition to our international initiatives,
we manage ongoing internship programs for college students
and young professionals from Japan and Portugal. Our programs
place them in local social service agencies to learn hands-on
volunteer management. We have also hosted full-time interns
from Japan, Korea, and Spain.
Each year, we hold informative
visits with several hundred representatives from various private,
governmental and non-governmental sectors throughout the world.
These visits educate everyone on the varied aspects of volunteering
and the development of national infrastructures to support
those efforts.
