INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF VOLUNTEERS (IYV)

IYV logoIn November 1997, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2001as the International Year of Volunteers. The objective was to highlight the accomplishments of the millions of volunteers throughout the world and encourage more people globally to engage in volunteering and community service. As co-chair of the United States IYV Committee, we encouraged individuals, businesses, and government and non-profit organizations to join in the world effort to strengthen civic society through volunteering.

Although the 2001 International Year of Volunteers officially ended on December 5, 2001, we are working to ensure the initiatives continue.
