In January, Duke Energy had several projects in various markets. In Charlotte, NC, in partnership with Hands On Charlotte, 9 Duke Energy volunteers worked for 27 hours preparing and serving lunch for approximately 300 members of Charlotte's homeless population at Urban Ministry Center. The Urban Ministry Center is an interfaith organization whose mission ultimately depends upon the support of others. They serve a hot, nutritious lunch 365 days a year and could not do so without community assistance.

In Nashville, in partnership with Hands On Nashville, a total of 50 Duke Energy volunteers gave 135.5 hours to four different non-profit partners to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. At the Urban League, volunteers sorted and organized donated clothing in the "Suit Yourself Closet" that supports participants in the Urban League's SOAR employment program. At the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, volunteers organized the food pantry and toiletry room and sorted donations. At Shared Harvest, volunteers sorted donated food and assembled food boxes. At the James Sauls Homeless Shelter, volunteers completed various cleaning and organization projects, including in the kitchen, laundry, and shed. Duke Energy volunteers made such a significant difference in their community within just one day of service.

United Way HandsOn Suncoast led two separate projects benefitting the United Way Suncoast’s Cross & Anvil Resource Center. During the first project, 28 Duke Energy volunteers contributed 112 hours to painting the interior of the facility. The second group of 30 Duke Energy volunteers invested 120 hours through painting and much needed landscaping activities.
