Check out the cool projects our corporate partners have been involved in this past month:
- Inspired by the work of nonprofits leading the fight to end child hunger, generationOn, created “What Will You Bring to the Table?” a campaign initiative with the goal of engaging 300,000 kids and teens to raise one million meals for children experiencing hunger in the United States. In partnership with presenting sponsor ConAgra, Arby’s and the Arby’s Foundation, Hasbro, Inc., Hilton Worldwide, the Hub TV and others, the campaign is designed to ignite the passion and creativity of young people who want to have an impact on child hunger in their communities. - Points of Light and Belk officially kicked off 125 Days of Service with a major service project in Charlotte filled with 200+ busy Belk employee volunteers supporting Montclair Elementary School and Reid Park Academy by constructing picnic tables, updating the playground, building book cases and more. Belk’s CEO, Tim Belk, kicked off the morning at Belk’s headquarters, with a rousing and inspirational speech, joined by a marching band, the “Belk-eets” dance team and an appearance by Belky Bear. A 4th grader was overheard saying to a Belk volunteer, “Thank you so much for fixing our school. We have great teachers! They deserve it!” This was the first of over 200 schools in 16 southern states that will be transformed by Points of Light, HandsOn Network and Belk employees. - On March 27, 2013, Visa teamed up with Volunteer Toronto for a, “Sound of Music Sing Along Movie Event,” for seniors at Bendale Acres in Toronto. Enhancing seniors’ quality of life involves not only providing excellent physical care, but also opportunities to socialize, to develop new interests, and to stay physically and mentally active. Friendly visiting by volunteers has proven to be a very effective antidote to the issue of seniors’ social isolation and can make their remaining years happier and more productive. All Bendale residents, including those with Alzheimer’s, greatly benefited from the mental stimulation derived from listening to music and interacting through sing-alongs.
- Points of Light’s Corporate Institute, in partnership with Southwest Gas, presented at WEI (Western Energy Institute) Conference on Engaging Your Workforce in Community Investment Efforts in Vancouver. In addition, the Corporate Institute also presented at the New York Life Volunteer Coordinator Conference on benchmarking, best practices, and new trends in Employee Volunteering.
Corporate Service Council members held a global discussion on volunteering dynamics in Asia, and insights into successful corporate approaches in these different markets. Presenting corporations included Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, Cisco Systems and ICBC AXA Life.
