
Al Carter is the Chief Operating Officer for Points of Light. Al is a proven senior executive with broad management experience in a variety of unique organizations and operating environments over more than three decades. In his role, he provides strategic and operational guidance as the organization continues to grow as the leader in the volunteer mobilization and civic engagement space.
Al comes to Points of Light from ACA Management Group, a boutique consulting practice, where he served as senior managing director. At ACA, he provided financial advisory services and operational management support to companies, private equity investors and banks. Before founding ACA in 2006, Al developed his wide range of management expertise with companies like Mobile Affirmations, an early competitor of Twitter. He has also provided executive leadership to companies in the food service, retail and financial services industries. Earlier in his career, he held marketing positions with The Disney Channel, HBO and Cummins Engine Co.
Throughout his professional career, Al has embodied the mission of Points of Light by lending his entrepreneurial drive and management expertise to various boards and service initiatives. He has been a board member of The Atlanta School; a member of the CEO Advisory Committee for the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC); a member of the African American Leadership Conference; regional fundraising lead for the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination); and a YMCA youth volunteer and soccer coach.
Al holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with honors from Paine College in Augusta, Ga., and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
