Abigail Loupe volunteers twice a week or more after school at the all-volunteer no-kill shelter, Animal Rescue New Orleans. Established in October 2005 during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi, Animal Rescue New Orleans rescues and aids abandoned homeless animals, and promotes the foster, adoption and reunion of pets with caretakers. Over the years, Animal Rescue’s mission has evolved to helping people keep their pets by providing food and medical care at no cost. They run a no-kill shelter to house, rehab, and find homes for pets whose elderly owners die, or go into nursing homes, and have no family to take care of their pets.

Loupe has been volunteering at the shelter for more than two years serving the community whose pets Animal Rescue has taken into its shelter. Loupe displays such boundless energy and a positive attitude while serving that other volunteers find it contagious. She is constantly encouraging and recruiting youth to serve at the shelter as a way to give back to their community. As a volunteer leader for the shelter, Loupe is able to guide other volunteers in service and inspire them to do the best job possible.
