Tax season has never been a celebration for many.  Imagine after crunching numbers for the whole day then volunteering to provide tax services to the underprivileged.  Well, this is what Peggy Burns do as a site coordinator for the VITA, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, in Bay City, MI. As site coordinator, Peggy trains volunteers in the IRS taxwise program; but during the day, Peggy works at Sciloli & Associates.  Managing her time between the two jobs shows the amount of concern for others Peggy has.

She has dedicated her life to the preservation of history in Yorktown, Virginia, and has inspired others to take a greater interest in their heritage, and in their communities. Ms. Boles has dedicated more time serving as Regent of the Comte De Grasse Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), than she did as a registered nurse.

When many can barely make time for themselves, Corey Castillo, has found time to do something special for others. Already a busy kid, somewhere between marching band, basketball, track, science club, and numerous other activities, Corey Castillo helps the elderly, veterans, and even his peers in his community. One such way was cleaning up a local cemetary. Years of neglect and three major hurricanes had left the Edgerly Cemetary in disarray.

Priya Sathaye volunteers with the Sunday Friends Program and has been serving with them since August of 2006. Sunday Friendsis a nonprofit organization tht runs programs for low-income families in San Jose, California. She taught piano lessons to children, led art projects and played a key role in the program's "shopping" operations. Priya was quickly recognized as a star volunteer with leadership qualities, so she was invited to serve on the Sunday Friends Volunteer Leader Team.

Scott Vancuzer is an outstanding friend, father and humantarian. None of these titles complare to the selfless commitment to the communmity Scott shares everyday. he is a great part of the Fort Pierce community in many ways. Scott is a leade with a huge heart. Just in the past year, he has set up a scholarship fund for local youth involved in community service. he has also helped to raise money for two families in the past four months. One of the family members had been diagnozed with cancer and lost his leg.

Laura Wysocki broke her elbow playing soccer and noticed an ad in the paper for volunteers. The program assigns Special Needs students with a "buddy" for one-on-one instruction in the rules of the game of soccer and the spirit of teamwork. Being a buddy to little Gordon is an eye opener for Laura. Born with Down Syndrome and a weak heart, Gordon has undergone two heart surgeries. Gordon does not know anything about soccer, is reluctant to play, and is notorious for running of the field every opportunity he can. After several weeks of cajoling, Gordon attempts to dribble the ball!

Jody Fazzano is a licensed clinical social worker with a Master's degree in social work, as well as being qualified to counsel people with substance abuse issues. In addition, Jody formerly was a news producer for the local ABC affiliate, channel 6 in Providence, RI. Jody has continued her work in the social/clinical area as an independent case worker. To say that she maintains a busy schedule would be an extreme understatement.

Joan is a relentless animal rescuer, and spends quite a lot of time assisting in the rescue, care, and placement of homeless dogs and cats, using her own resources. When you can’t find anyone else to help, Joan tries to be there. She assisted recently with the transport of a dog listed on “Dogs in Danger” to a safe haven in another state. She offered to pay the veterinary expenses for a disabled man’s cat, and has taken an elderly Shar Pei into foster care in her own home after the dog’s story was emailed to her.

This is story is about Zach and Thomas Eller's volunteer work: We have always loved animals and have gotten dog food for our birthdays instead of presents. We started volunteering for a pet rescue organization and wanted to do more, so we baked the dogs some biscuits. We sold them at the pet adoptions and gave the money to help with fostering expenses. From there, our business grew and we have been able to donate almost $8,000. to pet rescue.

Please read the following narrative about volunteer, Ellen Dean. Ellen Dean addresses the need to educate new generations of children to the age old use for books. Opening their minds to another way of learning that does not include television or computers. She helps them sharpen their reading skills therefore indirectly helping them overall in the whole school experience. Which will benefit them as they grow older and advance to each grade.
