Joe and Elaine Griswold were inspired to help the children of Uganda, Africa, on an unexpected tour of a government-sponsored village school. Since the tour, the couple has co-founded two non-profit organizations: Tree of Life Ministries in Uganda and Real Partners Uganda in the United States. The Griswolds, two retired teachers, have now devoted their lives to Ugandan children and have brought hope to the community through the Mustard Seed Academy in Lukaya, Uganda, which serves 300 children from age 3 to 13.

Daily Point of Light #4354, Dr. Naomi Mangatu

Thu, 2010-10-14 15:14 -- Points of Light...
It started as a simple proposal. Dr. Naomi Mangatu’s employer was holding a contest. Employees could submit a proposal for a community service project and the winning entry would be funded. Naomi’s idea “Women and Safe Water” won. With that, a trickle of hope arrived in the Kathivo Village in Kenya. In collaboration with the Catholic Diocese of Kitui, Naomi was able to start a rain harvesting project in the Kathivo Village of Kitui District in Kenya.

Daily Point of Light #4210, Breanna McGowan

Wed, 2010-03-24 11:22 -- Points of Light...
Breanna McGowan has the heart of a missionary. While volunteering at Outreach orphanage in Ghana for Projects Aboard, she genuinely cared for the children. She wondered how much more improved their futures would be if they only had the resources, and even spent her souvenir money on food for the orphanage. Therefore, when she returned to the United States, she had a goal: to make a tangible difference. Breanna’s work in Ghana inspired her to start a foundation called All’s God Children Got Shoes, which sends school supplies and shoes to the children in Ghana.

Mon, 2009-02-16 13:57 -- Points of Light...
Mr. Elvis Cintra and his wife, Victoria Cintra, have served MIRA since late 2005, when Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, leaving them and countless other immigrant families homeless. While other Coastal families were attempting to distance themselves as far away from the harm and destruction being experienced, Elvis and his wife answered the call to return from refuge to help thousands of immigrants who had been unlawfully evicted from emergency shelters and denied emergency benefits.
