John West has served Volunteer Mid-South for more than six years.  He does everything from reading to children who live in inner-city neighborhoods to playing bingo with the elderly to creating crafts with ill children. West has been essential in the programming of Volunteer Mid-South.  He is the Chairperson of the Leadership Council and trains incoming volunteers.  These new volunteers learn how to tutor elementary school students, which directly impact the rates of illiteracy and poverty in the community.

Pauline Abeyta offers clothes to the homeless along with a healthy dose of compassion through the organization The Clothing Room.  As a dedicated volunteer at The Clothing Room, Pauline has proved that community outreach is invalid without compassion and dedication. Every week, Pauline assists needy families and the homeless in finding clothes to wear.  Whether it’s for an interview or just something to wear for the day, Pauline understands the importance providing clothes and emotional support to the needy.

Daily Point of Light 3921, Joshua Williams

Thu, 2009-02-12 13:49 -- Points of Light...
At the tender age of five, Joshua became passionate about assisting the needy after viewing “Feed the Children.” He was in disbelief at the suffering that children everywhere were subject to. His first solution to the problem was that his mother should adopt some of these unfortunate children along with sending money to help others. His mother felt touched by his compassion and promised that they would help in whatever ways they could. Weeks after his interest in helping the needy had been sparked, his grandmother gifted him some pocket money.
