From Ideas to Impact

Points of Light and AT&T have partnered to create an online Social Impact Guide to serve as an actionable primer with tools, strategies and resources for community engagement practitioners and purpose-driven professionals. We have condensed years of research and CSR best practices from The Civic 50 into this easy-to-use online guide to assess, improve and scale your social impact and community engagement programs. The Guide is based on Points of Light’s Impact Framework that will help you think more strategically and holistically about your programs and create a roadmap for putting your ideas into action.

  • Investment: How your company strategically invests its employees’ time and talents along with its in-kind and financial resources in its community engagement and social impact programs. Think financial, human and social capital.
  • Integration: How your company integrates its community engagement and social impact programs throughout its culture, systems and business functions. How it “does well by doing good.”
  • Impact: How your company measures the social and business impact outcomes of its community engagement and social impact programs. Are you helping move the needle?
  • Inspiration: How your company can use employee recognition and storytelling to inspire others to take action in serving the needs of their community. Creating a movement, not a moment.

Within each section, we highlight the community and business benefits, breakdown concepts into tools strategies, provide thought-starters to jumpstart your planning, and list additional resources for further learning.

Now more than ever, it is time for the business sector to lead by example. No matter the size, scale or scope of your business, we hope this resource will help you unlock your company’s full potential to positively impact employees and drive transformative social change in the community!

Getting Started

Whether your company informally supports the community or has a strategy in place, this Social Impact Guide can help you start, strengthen or scale your impact. If you’re looking to better engage your employees, show up for your community in a meaningful way and create sustainable change, you’ve come to the right place.

LOCAL ENGAGEMENT FOR GREATER IMPACT

Charlene Lake, SVP, Corporate Social Responsibility and Chief Sustainability Officer, AT&T

“Our society doesn’t work if it doesn’t work equally for all. We recognize that inequalities are pervasive and we have a role to play in helping to address them. That’s why we’re committed to advancing education, creating opportunities, strengthening communities and improving lives, particularly amongst historically underserved populations. AT&T BelievesSM flips the script on top-down community engagement, putting local communities at the forefront. We learned early on we can make a bigger impact by listening to our employees on the ground, who are already helping their customers and neighbors, leveraging their expertise on where and how best to help in a given market.”
