The Civic 50 is an initiative that names the 50 most community-minded companies in the nation every year. Civic 50 companies are the trailblazers for demonstrating how companies can use their time, talent and resources to improve the quality of life in communities where they do business. Since 2012, Civic 50 companies have shown that by strategically aligning purpose with profit they can do well by doing good.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On the 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance, Points of Light – the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service – will host a multigenerational event on the grounds of the Washington Monument, bringing together veterans and school children to benefit children of military families. Sept. 11 was designated a National Day of Service and Remembrance by the 2009 Kennedy Serve America Act. The Corporation for National and Community Service leads the annual event, working with MyGoodDeed and hundreds of nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, and schools and businesses nationwide.

ATLANTA, Aug. 25, 2015 – Kaiser Permanente and Points of Light today announced that volunteers from across the country who served along the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina are being honored with the Daily Point of Light Award. One honoree left in the middle of the night to get to Biloxi, Mississippi, to help coordinate evacuation. Another used the Internet to coordinate volunteers and resources. All honorees responded with exceptional efforts and left a lasting impact.

ATLANTA, July 24, 2015 – Today, 75 AmeriCorps VISTA members will take the pledge of service administered by Wendy Spencer, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, as part of ServiceWorks, a national program addressing barriers to youth economic opportunity. More than 150 civic and corporate leaders, non-profit executives and elected officials will attend the swearing-in ceremony held at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Grammy-award winning artist J. Ivy will serve as Master of Ceremonies and Mark Swinton, Producer at Tyler Perry Studios, will deliver the keynote address.

ATLANTA, June 30, 2015 – The Points of Light Civic Accelerator announced today that it will invest $50,000 each in Mission Propelle (formerly Smarty Pants Yoga) and Move This World – one for-profit and one nonprofit startup. Both are creating greater opportunities for women and girls to succeed in today’s economy. The Civic Accelerator is the first accelerator and investment fund in the country focused on “civic ventures” – for-profit and nonprofit startups that include people as part of the solution to critical social problems. The goal of the accelerator is to equip each startup to seek investments and scale their social innovations.

Brown Convention Center Oct. 19-21. The 2015 Conference marks Points of Light’s 25th anniversary and will include some of the most recognized names in leadership, entertainment and philanthropy, all joining attendees to celebrate volunteering and service and highlight the impact of Points of Light, 25 years since it was established by President George H. W. Bush.

This annual event honors the people and organizations dedicated to taking action and addressing problems in their communities. National Volunteer Week draws the support and endorsement of President Barack Obama, who issued a national proclamation, and members of Congress, governors, mayors and municipal leaders, as well as corporate and community groups.
