From Pizza Slices to Purpose: Volunteer Fights Food Insecurity

Meet Daily Point of Light Award honoree Anish Kaza. Read his story, and nominate an outstanding volunteer or family as a Daily Point of Light.
Anish Kaza is co-founder of Pizza for a Purpose, a youth-led initiative and app tackling food insecurity in Boca Raton, Florida. After volunteering at local food banks and seeing families with children his own age struggling to access meals, Anish helped create a simple but scalable solution: partnering with local pizza restaurants and food banks to distribute donated pizza slices to people in need. As co-founder, he designs the app, builds restaurant partnerships and coordinates food distribution efforts. To date, Pizza for a Purpose has facilitated the donation of more than 22,000 pizza slices, expanding access to meals through a food item that is easy to transport, store and share.
For Anish, volunteering is about proving that young people do not have to wait to lead. He believes youth bring creativity, innovation and urgency to the issues shaping their communities. Through Pizza for a Purpose, he hopes to inspire others to start small, stay consistent and take action on causes they care about. His long-term goal is to expand the initiative to more cities while continuing to develop community-driven solutions to food insecurity.
