Adam Shamoun’s father grew up in Syria without access to educational opportunity, an experience that shaped everything his son would go on to build. That story lit a spark, and today Adam serves as President of the Brophy chapter of the Driving Empowerment Action & Learning (DEAL) Club and Chief Operations Officer of the national DEAL nonprofit, working to connect books to the people who need them most: tribal communities, families, and literacy organizations in Arizona and around the world.
Since joining in 2024, Adam has run four book distribution events, helped donate more than 120,000 books, and led fundraising efforts that have raised over $5,000, all while building the strategic systems to expand DEAL into new chapters and states. It’s work he traces directly back to his father, and to a belief that young people can’t afford to wait to make a difference.
For Adam, the secret is to find what you’re passionate about, start small, and show up every day. Literacy and sustainability are the causes that keep him coming back.
