Megha Pillai saw firsthand how many under-resourced students in the Dallas–Fort Worth area start the school year without basic supplies, and how that shortfall affects their confidence and ability to succeed. Believing that educational equity begins with equal access to foundational learning tools, she co-founded DFW Tools4Schools Foundation in June 2024 to close that gap.

As the nonprofit’s co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Megha leads digital marketing, community outreach, and volunteer operations. She builds business partnerships, connects with school districts, and manages a network of more than 70 student volunteers. Together, her team has hosted 10 community volunteer events and distributed more than 5,000 school supplies and 500 complete kits to local students.

For Megha, the reward is knowing those supplies relieve stress for families and help students thrive from the first day of school. Building an organization from the ground up has also taught her that real impact takes strategic planning, clear communication, and adaptable problem-solving.

Megha encourages anyone who wants to make a difference to start small, look at the needs in their own community, and bring friends along, because every contribution matters, whether it’s an hour at a local event or building something completely new.
