POINTS OF LIGHT WELCOMES AT&T EXECUTIVE AS NEW CORPORATE SERVICE COUNCIL CHAIR
Points of Light, a global nonprofit dedicated to accelerating people-powered change, announced today AT&T Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility, Charlene Lake, will serve as the chair of the Points of Light Corporate Service Council.

Points of Light Welcomes Three New Leaders to Board of Directors
Points of Light is pleased to announce the addition of three leaders to its board of directors. Each individual shares Points of Light’s vision of creating healthy communities in vibrant, participatory societies, and provides a complement to the current board.

The newly appointed members of the Points of Light board of directors are:
- Emad Bibawi, New York advisory market leader at KPMG, is a risk assurance solution partner with over 25 years of experience in Europe and the U.S. leading complex client relationships, and delivering internal audit and risk management engagements. Emad also functioned as the chief financial officer for a high-tech start-up, and serves as a board member for SeriousFun Children’s Network which was launched in 1988 by founder Paul Newman;
- George A. Kalogridis, president, segment development and enrichment at Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, is responsible for the development of strategic and operational business initiatives while developing and scaling best practices at Disney sites worldwide. In addition to leveraging his nearly 50 years of experience to champion segment initiatives in diversity and inclusion, George has long been active in the Central Florida community, serving on the board of several area nonprofits;
- Susan Molinari, a strategist and former vice president of Google public affairs and former member of Congress, developed a strong record of bipartisanship and effectiveness on issues ranging from transportation and the budget, to child abuse and human rights. In addition to numerous board appointments, including Harvard University Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School and the Toyota North America Diversity Board, Susan was selected as a member of the Sine Institute’s 2020 class of Fellows and Distinguished Lecturers at American University.

Points of Light Launches The Civic 50 Survey to Recognize Nation’s Top Corporate Citizens for 2020
Points of Light, a global nonprofit dedicated to accelerating people-powered change, today launched The Civic 50 survey for 2020. The survey will remain open through March 5, 2020, and the list of honorees will be publicly announced at the Points of Light Conference in Washington, D.C., on June 9, 2020.
Each year, The Civic 50 recognizes the 50 most community-minded companies in the nation each year as determined by an annual survey administered by True Impact. Since it was launched in 2012, the program has served as a benchmarking tool, a platform for sharing best practices, and a roadmap for companies committed to using their time, talent, and resources to drive social impact in their business and communities.
The top 50 honorees are selected based on the four dimensions of Points of Light’s Corporate Civic Engagement Framework:
- Investment: How the company strategically invests its resources in community engagement and social impact, including employee time and skills, cash, in-kind giving and public leadership.
- Integration: How the company integrates its community engagement and social impact programs throughout its business functions and interests (i.e., “does well by doing good”).
- Institutionalization: How the company institutionalizes its community engagement and social impact programs through organizational policies, systems, and incentives.
- Impact: How the company measures the social and business impact outcomes of its community engagement and social impact programs.
Public and private companies with U.S. operations and revenues of $1 billion or more are eligible to participate in the survey, which consists of quantitative and multiple-choice questions that inform The Civic 50 scoring process, and summary narrative questions to use to promote best practices.

Points of Light Honors St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Volunteer with Daily Point of Light on 30th Anniversary of Award
Points of Light, a global nonprofit dedicated to accelerating people-powered change, is honoring Jason Farmer, a Memphis, Tennessee volunteer for ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® , with the Daily Point of Light Award on the 30th anniversary of the first award. Farmer has supported St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital all of his life. He was a part of the early childhood assistance program in the 1970s sponsored by St. Jude in the Memphis-area and never forgot its support. About five years ago, he helped conceptualize and launch an annual event in Memphis during Black History Month called the St. Jude Spirit of the Dream to celebrate the achievements of African Americans who also support its lifesaving mission: Finding cures. Saving children.® This year Farmer is vice chair of the Memphis event committee, leading fundraising efforts by securing sponsorships and individual donor support. He also helped launch a similar event in Nashville in 2019. The Daily Point of Light Award honors individuals who are creating meaningful change in communities; efforts which often lead to long-terms solutions and impact social problems in their local communities. Founded by President George H.W. Bush, the very first Daily Point of Light Award was presented on Nov. 22, 1989, to The Commercial Appeal, a Memphis newspaper that published a series of stories on local “points of light,” volunteers in the Southern United States. At the event honoring The Commercial Appeal, President Bush said:

Points of Light Releases The Civic 50 2019 Key Trends and Insights Report
ATLANTA (Oct. 1, 2019) – Points of Light, a global nonprofit dedicated to accelerating people-powered change, released The Civic 50 report featuring key trends, benchmarking data and insights from the 2019 honorees. The Civic 50 honorees are public and private companies with U.S. operations and revenues of at least $1 billion, and are selected based on four dimensions of their U.S. community engagement program – investment of resources, integration across business functions, institutionalization through policies and systems and impact measurement.
Points of Light will also host a webinar on Friday, Oct. 4, at 2 p.m. ET to take a deep dive into the findings and discuss emerging trends in the corporate citizenship sector. All registrants will receive the first copies of the report.
“At Points of Light, we believe that companies, their employees and partners can be drivers of transformative social change in communities around the world,” said Natalye Paquin, president and CEO, Points of Light. “This year’s report shows that companies are making community support an increasing priority across the organization, not just in their community relations departments, and making sure their efforts drive sustained impact. Key Statistics and Highlights from The Civic 50 2019 Honorees:
- Generous giving. On average, The Civic 50 companies donate more than twice as much as other U.S. companies: $283,000 for every $10 million in revenue earned, as opposed to $130,000 (per CECP’s 2018 Giving in Numbers).
- Increasingly sophisticated investments. Grants are getting more integrated. Nearly 50 percent of The Civic 50 companies make multi-faceted investments where their grants are providing additional support through volunteerism, in-kind goods, or multi-year pledges.
- Board-level involvement. The vast majority (86 percent) of The Civic 50 companies include community involvement in the agenda of at least one board meeting a year.
- Performance reviews and goal setting. Sixty-two percent of The Civic 50 companies include community engagement in performance reviews, and 86 percent include it in department goals.
- Public leadership. Sixty-eight percent of The Civic 50 companies take national leadership positions on at least six public policy issues.
- Business impact and outcome measurement. The Civic 50 companies also measure the outcomes from integrating their community involvement with other business functions. More than half of the companies measure the outcomes of this integration with employee engagement, marketing/PR, and diversity and inclusion.

Bush Points of Light Awards Gala at the historic Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City. Nearly one year since the passing of its founder, President George H.W. Bush, Points of Light will bring together dignitaries from politics, business, entertainment and philanthropy to honor the late president’s legacy of volunteerism by celebrating individuals who demonstrate the transformative power of service and are driving significant and sustained impact. Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama are serving as honorary chairs for the inaugural Awards Gala.
President George H.W. Bush believed deeply in bringing attention to the thousands of “points of light” around the world who improve their communities one small act at a time. The George H.W. About Garth Brooks: Garth Brooks will receive The Inaugural George H.W. Bush Award for Caring and Compassion. In 1999, Brooks co-founded the Teammates for Kids Foundation with the mission of giving all kids, all around the world, an even start. Teammates for Kids is funded by professional athletes who generously donate based on performance levels in their sport. To date, the foundation has grown to include nearly 5,000 professional athletes to generate funds for children’s charities, focusing on children’s health, education, and inner-city outreach, and through building Child Life Zones, supporting youth athletic programs, and funding life-saving surgeries.
Alongside wife Trisha Yearwood, Brooks has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for more than a decade. Most recently, in August 2018, Brooks and Yearwood spent a week working with a crew to help build 41 homes in the community of Mishawaka, Indiana, at the 35th Annual Habitat for Humanity Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project.
About Maria Rose Belding: Inspired by her experiences as a food pantry volunteer, Maria Rose Belding created the MEANS Database as a freshman at American University. The innovative nonprofit has rerouted more than 2.2 million pounds of excess food to communities in need across the United States, getting it into the hands of hungry people instead of into the trash. Her dedication to fighting food insecurity has earned her recognition from L’Oreal Paris Women of Worth, Starbucks Upstanders, and CNN Heroes, among others.
About Khloe Thompson: Khloe Thompson was just 8 years old when she was inspired to start Khloe Kares to address the issue homelessness in her Los Angeles community. Now 12 years old, Thompson has distributed more than 5,000 handmade “Kare Bags” filled with socks, underwear, and a two- to three-month supply of toiletries and other necessities. She is equally passionate about inspiring other kids to create change, proving that there is no age limit on the impact an individual can have in their community, and around the world.

In partnership with CSR Solutions of Colorado, Points of Light announced The Civic 50 Colorado 2019 honorees, recognizing the 50 most community-minded small, medium, and large companies in the state as determined by an independently administered and scored survey. Modeled after Points of Light’s national program, this first statewide initiative provides a framework for good corporate citizenship, and showcases how local companies are moving social impact, civic engagement and community to the center of their business.

The Beach Boys to Perform at Gala Celebrating The Inaugural George H.W. Bush Points of Light Award for Caring and Compassion Honoring Garth Brooks
ATLANTA (Sept. 16, 2019) – Points of Light, a global nonprofit dedicated to accelerating people-powered change, today announced that The Beach Boys will perform at The George H.W. Bush Points of Light Awards Gala on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City. The George H.W. Bush Points of Light Award was created to those who advance solutions to the world’s toughest challenges and exemplify the extraordinary traits of the 41st president of the United States: integrity, empathy, respect, optimism, conviction in the face of opposition, and belief in the power of the human spirit to create positive change. Garth Brooks has been announced as the recipient of The Inaugural George H.W. Bush Points of Light Award for Caring and Compassion, recognizing his humanitarian spirit and empathetic compassion for others. Mike Love, co-founder and lead singer of The Beach Boys, and his wife, Jacquelyne, serve on the steering committee for the gala.

In 1990, Love was the first artist to respond to President George H.W. Bush’s call for service as part of the “thousand points of light” initiative. He began StarServe, “Students Taking Action and Responsibility in Service,” enlisting high-profile celebrities to inspire young people to serve their communities.

The Beach Boys have continued to create and perform with the same bold imagination and style that marked their explosive debut more than 50 years ago. The band is led by Love, who, along with longtime member Bruce Johnston, musical director Scott Totten, Brian Eichenberger, Christian Love, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill, Keith Hubacher and Randy Leago, continue the legacy of the iconic group as they play a busy schedule of concerts, ranging from sundrenched summer festivals to gala celebrations and special events across the globe. Bush Points of Light Award for Caring and Compassion – created to honor outstanding individuals who advance solutions to the world’s toughest challenges and exemplify the extraordinary traits of its late founder and the 41st president of the United States, George H.W. Bush. Brooks will be recognized for his caring and compassion at The George H.W. Bush Points of Light Awards Gala on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City.

“Garth is one of our generation’s true singer and songwriter legends – but what many people aren’t aware of, is Garth’s commitment and passion for creating viable change in communities across America,” said Neil Bush, chairman of Points of Light. “My father always admired the way Garth used his visibility to support and lift up those in need. And much like my father, Garth is a true humanitarian whose generosity comes from his empathetic compassion for others.”

In 1999, Brooks co-founded the innovative Teammates for Kids Foundation, which converts sports statistics into dollars. Teammates for Kids is funded by professional athletes who generously donate based on performance levels in their sport. To date, the foundation has grown to include nearly 5,000 professional athletes to generate funds for children’s charities, focusing on children’s health, education and inner-city outreach, and through building Child Life Zones, supporting youth athletic programs.
Alongside wife Trisha Yearwood, Brooks has also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for more than a decade. Most recently, Brooks and Yearwood spent a week working with a crew to help build 41 homes in the community of Mishawaka, Indiana, at the 35th Annual Habitat for Humanity Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project. In 2016, Brooks and Yearwood were named the inaugural Habitat Humanitarians alongside President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, recognizing their work as tireless champions of the need for decent, affordable shelter in the U.S. and around the world.
