More than 300 million people around the world need eye care but are unable to afford it. A large majority are students who are hamstrung in the classroom because they can’t see. Yash Gupta founded the not-for-profit organization, Sight Learning, two years ago to collect and donate used eyeglasses to students who need them in third world countries, in addition to organizing eye exam clinics in these nations
To date, Sight Learning has collected and donated more than $75,000 worth of eyeglasses to students who need them in the United States, Mexico, Honduras, Haiti, India and more. Additionally, Sight Learning’s clinics in Mexico and Honduras have helped treat more than 5,000 people.
