Every day, people of all ages, races, ethnicities and faiths step up to tackle problems in their communities and around the world. Points of Light connects people to their power to make a meaningful difference by providing access to tools, resources and opportunities to volunteer. In 2012, 4 million volunteers in 29 countries around the globe were mobilized through Points of Light. (See Points of Light By the Numbers.)
Over the next three years, we plan to grow that number significantly and help broaden and deepen the ways in which our constituents create real and lasting change. In the process, we will define a new kind of volunteerism for the 21st century, one that calls on people to utilize their full range of assets – time and talents, financial resources and their voice as citizens.
As a leader in the volunteer sector, we also aim to help create a culture and public policy environment in the United States that encourages and supports service, and contributes to the emerging service and civic engagement movement globally.
To extend our commitment to supporting service, Points of Light is active in Reimagining Service, a national coalition of multi-sector representatives that seeks to explore new ways of addressing the challenges and opportunities of increasing social impact through volunteer engagement.
