Bushes Present Daily Point of Light Award to Iconic Furniture Executive Jim `Mattress Mack' McIngvale
HOUSTON, Dec. 23, 2013 – President and Mrs. George H. W. Bush today joined their son Neil, who serves as chairman of the Points of Light, to present the 5115th Daily Point of Light Award to Houston furniture salesman and icon, Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale. The presentation took place at the former president's west Houston office.
The Daily Point of Light Award was started during the first Bush administration, during which 1,020 individual Americans and organizations were recognized for their selfless community service. This is the first time, however, that President Bush has personally nominated a candidate for the award.
This past summer, President Bush traveled to the White House to join President Obama in presenting the 5,000th Daily Point of Light Award to an Iowa couple that provides humanitarian assistance to AIDS-stricken communities in Tanzania. More info on that event can be found here.
