The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service (MLK Day), each January, marks the beginning of the year of service as millions of Americans honor the memory of Dr. King by contributing their time, voice and money to improve their communities.
Points of Light, through its MLK Day grantees, activation partners and enterprises, engages volunteers in service projects driven by community needs. Projects take place in hundreds of cities across the United States and around the world, ranging from weatherizing homes, beautifying schools, serving meals and supporting veterans and military families.
More than 50,000 Americans also come together in America’s Sunday Suppers across the nation, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to share a meal, discuss issues such as poverty and homelessness that American families and veterans are facing today, and be inspired to take action through service and advocacy.
