High school student Naa Asheley Ashitey is a patient liaison at the University of Chicago Medical Center. As part of her duties she brings magazine to patients and restocks items like toiletries, towels, and toothbrushes. While assisting hospital staff, Naa has taken to chatting up the patients who are appreciative of her company during their hospital stay. “The simplest of actions, such as taking out a water jug or bringing magazines [to a patient], can make a large difference in someone’s life,” she said. Inspired by her work at the medical center, Naa plans to eventually work in the medical field as a general practitioner.
