Jim Lane participates in a wide variety of community efforts, but the issue he is most passionate about is fighting hunger. Therefore, he has spent more than 12 years every Tuesday evening feeding visitors of the Lord’s Table program at Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church.

Due to Lane’s efforts, as many as 160 people enjoy a nutritious meal in a safe and friendly environment one night per week. The people served come from a variety of backgrounds. Each with an interesting story to share, and Jim knows those stories, and listens with warmth and interest. He greets regulars by their names and knows just how to attend to their individualized needs.

When he is not serving visitors, Lane attends meetings and workshops in an effort to learn how to apply for staples for the Lord’s Table. He spends a great deal of time researching potential resources in order to sustain the project.

Lane’s efforts have brought hope to hundreds of people in our community. He has provided a safe haven where food, warmth, and friendliness can always be expected. Word of these efforts has transcended the community and brought in many other volunteers to help with the program.
