Sam Alfano
Sam Alfano has willingly volunteered five years of his time (2001-2006) to Hospice of the Valley (HOTV) as a member of the Board of Directors he served as President for two years, and chaired the Finance Committee for two years. His imaginative and creative efforts have positively influenced the advancement of programs and services offered to terminally ill patients and their families of the community.
Sam's strong leadership abilities provided the groundwork, which enabled the assessment for HOTV's Capital Campaign with Funding Solutions, Inc., in 2003. This process required many volunteer hours, which Sam gave without hesitation. He exemplified consistent and extraordinary mentoring and professional support throughout the Capital Campaign, which made the purchase of the building possible in 2004. Sam worked diligently through one year of design and re-engineering of the building to make the renovation affordable.
Sam's belief in the cause and his devotion resulted in another nine months of multiple volunteer hours at multiple meetings with architects, contractors and subcontractors, HOTV Board, HOTV Foundation Board, and HOTV Executive Committee, as renovation began. Without his "eagle eye for detail" and the hundreds of volunteer hours, the project would not have been a success. He mapped out a financial plan that kept expenses within the approved budget.
Sam has also volunteered to serve as board representative for the newly formed Hospice Strategic Alliance, representing hospice agencies throughout North Alabama. He will be a valuable asset to this new organization.
Sam has also put forth many hours of service with other well-deserving organizations such as Hurricane Katrina Relief Volunteers; Youth Soccer Coach; Emmaus Community Walk; Dixie Youth Baseball Team Manager and Assistant Coach; Decatur Rotary Club Member; and Chair of Rotary Audit Review Committee.
